Handling at Farnborough (EGLF)

We handle overflight permits, slots, flight plans, fuel, customs and the turnaround at Farnborough. One coordinator owns the stop at Farnborough, from the first filing to wheels up.

Reference only, not for flight planning. Lengths are full declared runway length rather than declared distances, and this page is not amended on the AIRAC cycle. Check the current AIP and NOTAMs, or ask the desk and we will check them for you.

The field

What EGLF is actually like

Farnborough is a business aviation airport in the strict sense: no scheduled traffic, purpose-built for private movements, and positioned for west London and the Thames Valley. It is the fastest arrival-to-car experience in the London group and it prices accordingly.

Operating brief

What we handle before you file

Permits

UK CAA rules apply as anywhere else in Britain, with commercial operators from outside the UK needing a permit. Nothing about Farnborough adds a permit layer, but everything about it adds a prior-permission layer.

Slots and parking

Farnborough operates under an annual movement cap and reduced weekend allowances, so prior permission is not a formality here. Requests are assessed against remaining capacity, and a refusal in a busy period is a normal outcome rather than an error.

Customs and border

Full border facilities on site. As a third-country arrival from the EU, the General Aviation Report and passenger details go in ahead of the notice period, and the field is well practised at it.

When it gets tight

The Farnborough International Airshow in alternate Julys takes the airport out of normal service. Beyond that the constraint is structural rather than seasonal: the movement cap means busy simply arrives earlier in the year.

On the ground

Off the aircraft and into the car

The fastest aircraft-to-car experience in the London group by a clear margin, and the pricing reflects it. West London and the Thames Valley corporate belt are close; anywhere east of the City is not, and Biggin Hill will beat it every time for those.

Alternates

Where we go when EGLF will not take the trip

Every one of these is a field we would put to you with the reason attached, not a list of nearby runways.

  • EGGW

    London Luton

More capacity and fewer movement restrictions, at the cost of a longer drive into the west of the city.

  • EGKB

    London Biggin Hill

The other dedicated business aviation field, on the opposite side of London.

  • EGLL

    London Heathrow

Rarely the right answer for a private trip, but it has the slots and the customs desk when nothing else does.
