The field
What LIML is actually like
Linate is Milan's city airport and the closest field to the business district. It runs a dedicated business aviation facility and is the default for anything commercial, financial or fashion related in northern Italy.
Operating brief
What we handle before you file
Permits
Standard Italian EU rules under ENAC. The permit is rarely the issue at Linate; the slot always is.
Slots and parking
Slot coordinated and tightly capped, with business aviation working inside a constrained allocation. Linate is the northern Italian field where a request made late simply does not get in.
Customs and border
Border facilities are on the field and the process is quick, provided the manifest went in on time. Linate has far less slack than Malpensa for fixing a late one.
When it gets tight
Fashion weeks in February and September, the Salone del Mobile in April, and the Italian Grand Prix at Monza in early September. Each fills Linate before it fills Milan, and the Salone in particular turns a normal week into one where neither a slot nor a hotel room exists at any price. Requests for those weeks should go in months ahead, not days.
On the ground
Off the aircraft and into the car
Fifteen minutes to the centre of Milan, closer to a business district than any other major field in Europe. That proximity is what people pay for here and it is worth it, right up until the week the slot does not exist.
Alternates
Where we go when LIML will not take the trip
Every one of these is a field we would put to you with the reason attached, not a list of nearby runways.
- LIMC
Milan Malpensa
Forty-five minutes further out with far more capacity, and the sensible fallback during fashion week.
- LIME
Bergamo Orio al Serio
East of the city, rarely constrained, and closer to Lake Como than Linate is.
- LIMB
Milan Bresso
General aviation only, north of the city, for light aircraft.
