What LPPT is actually like

Lisbon is Portugal's main airport, built inside the city and constrained by it. Business aviation is accommodated but never prioritised, and the field has been running close to its declared capacity for years.

Permits

Portugal is in the EU, so European private flights need no landing permit. ANAC is the authority for anything that does.

Slots and parking

Slot coordinated and genuinely congested. This is the European field where moving a private trip to a nearby general aviation airport most often turns out to be faster, cheaper and less fragile.

Customs and border

Lisbon is one of the first landfalls on an eastbound crossing, so it handles more first-entry traffic than a city this size would suggest. Transatlantic and African arrivals go through the post; intra-Schengen traffic does not.

When it gets tight

May through September, plus the Web Summit in November which fills the city rather than the apron. New Year in Madeira pulls traffic through Lisbon in late December.

Off the aircraft and into the car

The airport is inside the city, so the drive is short and the arrival is the slow part rather than the transfer. Handling is fine. The congestion is airside, and Cascais is the answer if it matters.
