Handling at Hong Kong (VHHH)

We handle overflight permits, slots, flight plans, fuel, customs and the turnaround at Hong Kong International. One coordinator owns the stop at Hong Kong, from the first filing to wheels up.

The field

What VHHH is actually like

Hong Kong is a major business aviation centre and the traditional gateway between China and the wider world. It has excellent facilities and very little room, which is the defining tension of operating here.

Operating brief

What we handle before you file

Permits

The Hong Kong CAD handles landing permits, and the process is efficient by regional standards. A continuing leg into mainland China is an entirely separate and much longer filing.

Slots and parking

Slot coordinated with prior permission required, and parking is the genuine constraint. Extended stays are difficult to obtain and drop-and-go with a repositioning leg is a normal outcome rather than a fallback.

Customs and border

Hong Kong runs its own immigration regime, separate from mainland China. A passenger cleared here is not cleared for Shenzhen, which catches operators who think of the two as one destination.

When it gets tight

The Chinese New Year period, the spring and autumn art and auction seasons, and the major trade fairs. Parking tightens well before slots do.

On the ground

Off the aircraft and into the car

Thirty minutes to Central on the Airport Express or by road, and the facilities on the field are excellent. None of that is the problem. Parking is the problem, and it decides whether the aircraft stays with the passengers or turns around empty.

Alternates

Where we go when VHHH will not take the trip

Every one of these is a field we would put to you with the reason attached, not a list of nearby runways.

  • VMMC

    Macau

Forty minutes across the delta by ferry, a separate jurisdiction, and often with parking when Hong Kong has none.

  • ZGSZ

    Shenzhen Bao'an

Mainland China, so a full CAAC permit filing, but immediately across the border.

  • ZGGG

    Guangzhou Baiyun

Further into the mainland with real capacity, on the same CAAC permit basis.
