Handling at Toronto (CYYZ)

We handle overflight permits, slots, flight plans, fuel, customs and the turnaround at Toronto Pearson. One coordinator owns the stop at Toronto, from the first filing to wheels up.

The field

What CYYZ is actually like

Pearson is Canada's largest airport and the main international gateway for business aviation into Ontario. It has full capability at any hour and a well-established private aviation presence alongside a very large scheduled programme.

Operating brief

What we handle before you file

Permits

Canadian domestic and United States flights are straightforward. Foreign commercial operators need Transport Canada authority, and that is where the lead time sits.

Slots and parking

Coordinated, and business aviation sits behind the scheduled programme in the peaks. Parking is available but should be confirmed rather than assumed.

Customs and border

CBSA clearance runs on advance notification and the windows are applied firmly. Arriving outside the one you gave produces real delay rather than a warning. Private trips generally clear through CANPASS where the crew and passengers hold it, and through the normal reporting process where they do not, which is slower and worth knowing before the descent rather than after.

When it gets tight

The Toronto International Film Festival in September is the sharpest week. Winter operations and de-icing sequencing shape departures from December through March.

On the ground

Off the aircraft and into the car

Thirty to forty-five minutes downtown, and the 401 can make a liar out of any estimate. Billy Bishop is dramatically closer if the aircraft fits and the hours work. Handling at Pearson is professional but you are a small fish in a very large pond.

Alternates

Where we go when CYYZ will not take the trip

Every one of these is a field we would put to you with the reason attached, not a list of nearby runways.

  • CYTZ

    Billy Bishop Toronto City

On the waterfront and by far the closest to downtown, but restricted by runway length and operating hours.

  • CYHM

    John C. Munro Hamilton

Forty-five minutes south west, open around the clock, and rarely constrained.

  • CYOO

    Oshawa Executive

East of the city, general aviation focused, and closer for Durham Region.
