The field

What KTEB is actually like

Teterboro is the busiest general aviation airport in the United States and the primary business aviation gateway to New York City. It sits twelve miles from midtown Manhattan and carries no scheduled traffic, which is the entire reason for its existence.

Operating brief

What we handle before you file

Permits

Domestic United States flights need no permit. Arriving international traffic files eAPIS and needs a customs arrangement, and foreign-registered aircraft on commercial operations need DOT and FAA authority that takes real lead time.

Slots and parking

No slot control, but Teterboro operates a maximum aircraft weight restriction that rules out heavier types outright, and noise abatement procedures are enforced. New York terminal airspace delays affect the departure far more than anything on the field does.

Customs and border

A full customs facility on site, which is what makes Teterboro work as an international gateway rather than just a domestic reliever. Advance notice and eAPIS submission are firm requirements, not courtesies.

When it gets tight

The United Nations General Assembly in September is the most constrained week of the New York year, with airspace restrictions layered on top of demand. Thanksgiving, the Christmas period and the spring gala season are the other reliable peaks.

On the ground

Off the aircraft and into the car

Twelve miles from midtown, and the Lincoln Tunnel decides whether that is twenty-five minutes or ninety. Helicopter transfers into Manhattan are common and often the only way to hold a schedule. Several strong FBOs, all busy, none of them slow.

Alternates

Where we go when KTEB will not take the trip

Every one of these is a field we would put to you with the reason attached, not a list of nearby runways.

  • KHPN

    Westchester County

North of the city with its own operating restrictions, and better for anything in Connecticut or Fairfield County.

  • KMMU

    Morristown

New Jersey, no weight restriction, and the standard answer for aircraft Teterboro cannot take.

  • KFRG

    Republic

Long Island, and the right field for the Hamptons run.
