The field

What OTHH is actually like

Hamad International is Qatar's sole civil airport of significance and handles business aviation alongside a major scheduled hub operation. Facilities are modern and the ground handling standard is high.

Operating brief

What we handle before you file

Permits

The Qatar CAA issues landing and overflight permits for foreign operators, with lead times that are reasonable but real. Regional airspace closures have historically reshaped routings into and out of Doha at short notice, so the flight plan is confirmed against current conditions rather than last year's.

Slots and parking

Coordinated, with prior permission required. Parking for business aviation is available and generally confirmable well in advance, which is not something every Gulf field can say in December.

Customs and border

Qatar issues visas on arrival for many passports but not all, and the exceptions are the ones that matter. Confirm each passenger's nationality against the current list before departure.

When it gets tight

The winter season from November through March, plus any major sporting or diplomatic event, which in Doha means the field goes from comfortable to fully allocated quickly.

On the ground

Off the aircraft and into the car

Fifteen to twenty minutes to almost anywhere in Doha, because almost everything in Doha is close. Handling standards are high and the ground time is short. One of the least stressful stops in the region.

Alternates

Where we go when OTHH will not take the trip

Every one of these is a field we would put to you with the reason attached, not a list of nearby runways.

  • OBBI

    Bahrain International

Forty minutes away across the Gulf, with capacity and a straightforward permit process.

  • OMDW

    Dubai Al Maktoum

An hour by air, and the regional field with the most business aviation capacity.

  • OKKK

    Kuwait International

North up the Gulf, capable, and a useful technical stop.
