Handling at Auckland (NZAA)

We handle overflight permits, slots, flight plans, fuel, customs and the turnaround at Auckland. One coordinator owns the stop at Auckland, from the first filing to wheels up.

The field

What NZAA is actually like

Auckland is New Zealand's main international gateway and the arrival point for most business aviation entering the country. It is well equipped and uncongested by international standards.

Operating brief

What we handle before you file

Permits

The New Zealand CAA handles authority for foreign commercial operators, and private flights are relatively simple. The complexity here is at the border rather than in the permit.

Slots and parking

Nothing much competes for the runway. Parking is available and long stays are obtainable, which is unusual enough at a major international field to be worth planning around.

Customs and border

New Zealand operates some of the strictest biosecurity controls in the world. Aircraft are inspected, cabins are often treated on arrival, and food, plant and animal material is confiscated without exception. Build the inspection into the arrival timeline.

When it gets tight

The southern summer from December through February, and the America's Cup and major sailing events when hosted. Demand is modest against capacity in most weeks.

On the ground

Off the aircraft and into the car

The city is well under an hour away, but the road is never what determines the stop. Biosecurity sets the ground time here, and an inspection is not something anyone hurries along. Assume it will happen and build it in.

Alternates

Where we go when NZAA will not take the trip

Every one of these is a field we would put to you with the reason attached, not a list of nearby runways.

  • NZAR

    Ardmore

Auckland's general aviation field, south of the city, for smaller aircraft with no international requirement.

  • NZCH

    Christchurch

South Island, full international facilities, and the gateway to Queenstown and the Antarctic programme.

  • NZWN

    Wellington

The capital, short runway, and famously demanding in wind.
