What OJAI is actually like

Queen Alia is Jordan's main international airport and a stable, well-run point in a region where that matters. It handles business aviation competently and is a common technical stop on Europe to Gulf routings.

Permits

The Jordanian CARC issues landing and overflight permits for foreign operators. The process is reliable, though regional airspace conditions can change routings and permit relevance at short notice.

Slots and parking

No significant slot pressure, and parking is available and confirmable in advance. Amman's value on a long routing is that it is one of the few fields in the region where a stop can be arranged at short notice without a permit becoming the critical path.

Customs and border

Visa on arrival covers many nationalities and Jordan is markedly easier on entry than its neighbours. That ease is a large part of why it works as a technical stop.

When it gets tight

Spring and autumn for tourism, plus the periods around religious holidays. Airspace availability across the region is a more relevant variable here than apron capacity.

On the ground

Off the aircraft and into the car

Forty minutes into Amman on a straightforward road. Petra is around three hours and Wadi Rum four, so a day trip is a long day. Handling is competent and unhurried, and the field is a comfortable place to be stuck if the routing changes.
